Beware the Wounded Beast

The results of the midterm elections were far better than expected. This was not the usual midterm course correction, but a major change in direction. It was an historic blue tsunami that washed over the red states, drowning MAGA hopes of setting their revolution permanently in place.

Unless of course, the Democrats blow it, which they almost certainly will, if history and human nature is any guide. But for now, at least, there is justifiable satisfaction in the fact that the people have spoken loudly in as clear a rebuke of Donald Trump as can be imagined. So much so that all the shifty and illegal plans the Republicans had ready to cast doubt on the results could not even be put into play.

It was without doubt, a bright, shining moment for American democracy, worthy of celebration by people of goodwill around the world. One for the history books.

That’s the good news. The bad news is that the hard part now begins. The fight must continue, not just to restore the Constitution and the rule of decency, but to keep the bad guys on the back foot. Start the hearings! The clean-up cannot really begin until the struggle is definitively decided, and the red-hat mob is completely run out.

But the conflict is far from being over, though at the moment an effort is being promoted for “peace in our time”. It will doubtless reassure some fools. Historically, Democrats don’t hold seem to hold grudges quite as well as Republicans. Maybe it is what makes us so “dumb”.

For whatever the president may say about working with “Dumocrats” in his better moods, the basic fact that anyone who has watched this man at all knows is that Donald Trump takes disloyalty in any form as he sees it about as well as Michael Corleone or Vladimir Putin. Revenge is imperative and viciousness almost instinctive to these types. And it won’t just be blues in his sights.

The American people (or rather barely half of the half of voters that bothered to vote) have firmly rejected Trump; but worse, his own followers have utterly failed him. Of course, it is entirely his own fault, as he deliberately turned this contest into a referendum on his leadership (not that he will now ever admit such a thing). Even so, that’s gotta hurt like hell.

MAGA failed the test: they must be punished. The pain won’t likely come from the Democrats, however, but their own Dear Leader.

Because what can Mr. Lame Duck do now? He can’t veto and pardon everything. What can the Fuhrer do holed up in his ballroom, er, bunker, except order everything burned down? And as he has already reminded us, he can do it, too…

It’s going to be a long two years.

For as long as possible, TRUMP OF DOOM will be here to chronicle, illuminate, and comment on the End Times, for grim amusement and for insight as we watch. May God have mercy on us all.
