In less than two weeks, Donald J. Trump will be come president of the USA again. Already, darkness is falling on the country. He has already infuriated allies with deranged schemes to buy (or seize) Greenland, the Panama Canal, and Canada, which of course, delights the Kremlin — and may be the point. Likely it is all just a distraction from worse things, such as his actual foreign policy. But who knows? Keeping everyone anxious and off-balance, focused on unreal possibilities, has always been part of his technique. But no-one can dismiss such gambits, due to his erratic nature.
Even worse, billionaires are publicly kissing his ass. Musk, Zuckerberg, Bezos, and others kowtow before his threats, implicit and otherwise, as Trump rapidly turns this once-great nation into a third-world kleptocracy.
And the man continues to get away with everything. Even his pet judge, Aileen Cannon, has tried to block the report. At least, the disappointing, do-nothing, Attorney General Merrick Garland is attempting to get it released. Don’t hold your breath.
It cannot be a coincidence that Jimmy Carter, quite possibly the most moral occupant of the Oval Office, has gone to be with the Lord at such a time. The outpouring of grief is not just for his loss, but America’s. Jimmy looks more like a saint every day in comparison with his successor, and doubtless will look even better in time. Let us never forget Carter’s greatness, nor that he said back in 2019 that Trump won with Russia’s help, and is an “illegitimate president”.
